Current account customers are refusing to show any signs of backing down when it comes to reclaiming unfairly high bank charges, as figures released this week reveal a staggering 50 per cent increase in banking disputes reported to the Financial Ombudsman Service in the past year.

Carry on fight over Bank Charges - dated 20 May 07
VICTIMS of rip-off bank charges are being urged to claim back their money as soon as possible because the tide may be turning against them following a court victory for Lloyds TSB last week.
A district judge at Birmingham county court dismissed a claim for more than £2,000 in charges and interest from Kevin Berwick on the grounds that they were for a service and not default or penalty fees. It is the first time a bank has fought a disputed bank-charge claim in court and won. Berwick is expected to appeal against the decision.

Overdraft Charges could be slashed as fair trading watchdogs finally get tough with the banks. The Office of Fair Trading wants charges on current accounts to be cut - and possibly capped.
Customers can be charged as much as £39 when they spend more than their overdraft limit.

A&L to pay damages for closing account - dated 6 Feb 07
Banks have been dealt another blow in their battle to fend off claims against overdraft charges after the Financial Ombudsman ordered Alliance & Leicester to compensate a customer for closing his account.
A&L shut Warren Miles' account after he successfully reclaimed bank charges last year. "Customers who take action on overdraft charges are fundamentally unhappy with the terms of the account, so A&L chooses to close it", a spokesman said.
However, Mr Miles complained to the Ombudsman, which last week ruled that the bank's action was "punitive and retaliatory" and awarded Mr Miles £125 in damages.
