OFT WIN BANK CHARGE CASE

Mr Justice Andrew Smith has ruled that bank charges do fall under consumer law and as such the Office of Fair Trading is free to challenge the excessive charges levied by the High Street banks.

Unfortunately it will not mean that refunds will be paid immediately as they still have to determine how much is a fair amount to charge for administering unpaid direct debits or unauthorised overdrafts etc.

We will need to see what the response is from the Financial Services Authority with regards to the suspension of bank charge complaints so watch this space for the next update.
